Protecting structural steel in buildings through fireproofing design, testing, and application
This course will review the process crucial to optimization of steel design, focusing on fire protection as a key consideration. Design considerations relating to steel protection will be reviewed along with ways to determine the type of fireproofing that best suits the overall application. This presentation will review test standards required to meet International Building Code requirements and examples of typical fireproofing specification sections. Participants will learn about the key standards that define testing parameters and the extents of permissible extrapolation of test results. Attendees will also learn about common application issues faced by fireproofing applicators, as well as inspection requirements per the IBC and inspection guidance for local Authorities Having Jurisdiction. - series
