Tension lap splice in PROFIS Rebar

How PROFIS Rebar determine the length of a tension lap splice if the post-installed bar diameter is different from the cast-in bar to which it is being spliced?

Hi Customer,

thank you for your question. Reference ACI 318-11 Section 12.15.3 and ACI 318-14 Section 25.5.2.2. When bars of different sizes are lap spliced in tension, the required lap splice length equals the larger of (a) the smaller bar lap splice length and (b) the larger bar development length. HIT-HY 200 and HIT-RE 500 V3 have been qualified per AC308 Table 3.8; therefore, post-installed reinforcing bars can be designed with these adhesive systems per ACI 318 development and splice provisions. PROFIS Rebar utilizes the provisions of ACI 318-11 Section 12.15.3 to calculate the tension lap splice length when reinforcing bars post-installed using either HIT-HY 200 or HIT-RE 500 V3 are being tension spliced with a cast-in bar of a different diameter than the post-installed bar diameter. Please feel free to reach out any time, if you need additional information.

Cheers
Zachary
