Re-use of fixed anchor

Re-use of fixed anchor

I am specifying HAS adhesive anchors for a project and would like to know if a fixture/baseplate can be fitted, then removed and reinstalled (chemset threaded rod remains in place).

That is, the baseplate is located over the installed anchors, nuts torqued to Tinst. The nuts are then loosened, base plate removed. The base plate is then reinstalled. Nuts are re-torqued.

Is the above permissible? If so, is torquing to Tinst required or is that just to confirm bond strength when initially installed?

Joseph,

After the adhesive has cured, the nut, washer, and baseplate may be removed and reinstalled without degrading the capacity of the anchor as long as the published torque value is not exceeded. The torque value associated with the HAS rod is to establish clamping between the components, and it is not required to set the anchor since it is not a torque controlled anchor. However exceeding this torque value may result in fractures of the cured adhesive which could have an effect on the capacity of the anchors.

I hope this has answered your question. Please reach out if there is anything else I can help with.

Lisa

Hi Lisa, How about wedge anchor (KB-TZ)? Can we loosen the nut, leave the bolt in place, and retighten after new base plate is installed? Many thanks, Charles
