When calculating shear concrete breakout for multiple rows of anchors, how does PROFIS Anchor account for the distribution of the shear force? Does it follow the ACI methodology or more of a conservative approach? Thank you!
Steve,
PROFIS Anchor takes a conservative approach when evaluating the shear force acting on multiple rows of anchors in an anchor system. One of the main unknowns is how the shear force is distributed through the anchor system, and if there is any variance as the shear acts towards the failure edge. In PROFIS Anchor, the software will assume the leading, or front row of anchors, near the concrete edge will take the full shear load acting on the anchor system. Although ACI 318 Anchoring-to-Concrete provisions provide one methodology, PROFIS Anchor will take a conservative approach to the situation.
