Power Actuated Fasteners through Cold Formed Steel

I've been under the impression that PAF must go through the CFS first in order to avoid bending or rippling the CFS. You showed going through sheathing first then into the CFS, is this a valid use?

Hey Customer,

well this is a good question. You are right, historically PAFs could not be used to fasten sheathing or other materials to CFS because it was too thin. Today there are some systems on the market that are capable of fastening to CFS. The example shown is a nail driven by a gas-actuated tool, which doesn’t hit as hard as a typical power actuated tool. Also, the nail itself has a smaller diameter for easier penetration, and a “spiral” type knurling on the shank which enhances the hold in the CFS. Values for this application are available in the Hilti Product Technical guide, and also in ICC ESR #3059. I hope I have answered your question. If there is anything else, please let me know.

Best Regards
