Post installed threaded rod greater than 20Db

Just watched the webinar for post installed adhesive reinforcing bars. The webinar described using reinforcing bars for adhesive anchoring with depths/laps greater than 20 bar diameters. This is recognized per code base upon the ESR report for the adhesive anchoring system (HY-200 or HIT RE-500). The ESR specifically states reinforcing bar is applicable for lap splice provisions (section 4.2), but I am quite often looking to use threaded rods for base plate connections. Most of the time the provisions of ACI 318-14 chapter 17 (which is limited to 20Db) cannot be met within the allowable geometry of the existing condition. Is there testing in the works or design literature (ESR) on threaded rod adhesive connections with depths greater than 20Db?

Thanks

Aaron

Aaron,

For use of threaded rod past the 20d limitation from ACI 318-14 Chapter 17, you can reference the Hilti technical supplement for deep embedments with threaded rod for guidance on how to approach the situation: https://www.hilti.com/medias/sys_master/documents/h34/9236312096798/Technical-information-ASSET-DOC-LOC-7596917.pdf

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Bryan
