If I designed the rebar as an anchor, however, it was installed to have an embed longer than 20_db by contractor. Can I still use the anchor strength I calculated? I'm not increasing the capacity of the rebar. Is the extra length detrimental?

Hi Yuying,

ACI 355.4 limits the embedment depth of adhesive anchors to 4da ≤ hef ≤ 20da, which represents the theoretical limits of the bond model referenced in Eligehausen 2006. However as an engineer, a judgment can be made to exceed these limits, but it will be outside the scope of the code.
