How close to control cut can I anchor

I have been install automotive lifts for 26 years. Never a problem anchoring near control cuts. I have an inspector saying I am wrong because the manual says I’m not 8” away. I am 3” away. Concrete is 5” thick with 3/4”x5-1/2” wedge anchors. There are 3 anchors 3” away from a 1/2” deep cut and 4 other around the base much further away from the cut. Base is approx 18”x18”. Manual calls for a minimum of 4” concrete and 8” from a joint. I can not find documentation to back my years of experience. Am I wrong or what can I say to this guy?

Hi Joe,

Typically, engineers consider control joints as an edge as a conservative approach. The edge distance requirements will vary depending on the type of anchor, i.e. KB-TZ, KB3, etc. Ultimately, the final decision and design is at the discretion of the engineer on the project.
