How can I fully develop a slab-to-wall T connection?

*Posted on behalf of a Hilti customer

As the post-installed rebar cannot be hooked, how would one ensure full development of rebar in the existing portion of a slab-to-wall T connection, particularly if the slab thickness is less than the straight bar development length?

Dear customer,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Only the straight end of a post-installed reinforcing bar can be embedded into existing concrete. If the calculated development length requires a hook to be installed into the existing concrete because of limitations on the concrete geometry, design of post-installed reinforcing bars using development and splice provisions is not feasible. Consider designing the bar using anchoring-to-concrete provisions as an alternative design. Please feel free to reach out any time, if you need additional information.

Cheers
