For an agency that can not specify proprietary products, how can the designer design and post-installed anchor without the qualification report for a specific product. For example what are reasonalbe characteristic bond stresses (no-seiemic and seismic installations) they would assume and should that minimum be stated in the specifications including assumbe embedment depths.

Hi Michael,

In order to specify a Hilti product without using the proprietary name, there are a few parameters that could be specified instead. The bond strength which is listed in the ESR would be specific to the Hilti adhesive, type of steel element, diameter of the steel element, and drilling method. The hole size should also be specified since this can vary between manufacturers. Hilti typically is an 1/8” larger than the diameter of the steel element for sizes 5/8” to 1-1/4” and 1/16” larger for the smaller diameters of 3/8” and ½”.
