What are the two factors of safety 1.35 and 1.5 for the loads and 1.25 for anchor plate?

Hi Bobby,

The safety factors for the permanent and variable loads are for European anchor design. These are not applied if you are designing under ACI. Additionally, the PROFIS Engineering software refers to the minimum edge distance of an anchor to the edge of a steel plate as the “anchor plate factor,” per AISI S100-16. Regarding this minimum edge distance requirement, Section J4.2 (previously E4.2) of AISI S100-16 states:

The distance from the center of a fastener to the edge or end of any part shall not be less than 1.5d.”

Thus, the PROFIS Engineering software defaults the anchor plate factor to a value of 1.5. The software will provide an error message if the anchor layout violates the AISI S100-16 provision. However, the engineer can consider using engineering judgment to modify the anchor plate factor within the software if desired. To modify the anchor plate factor, please reference the following steps:

  1. Click the “Gear” Icon Located Near the File Name in the Top Center of the Design Interface
  2. Locate the “Anchor Plate Factor” Field within the “Units and Default Parameters” Section
  3. Change the “Anchor Plate Factor” Accordingly to Change Minimum Edge Distance Requirement
