Expected vs. non-expected yield in Profis Rebar

For the special structural wall application in PROFIS Rebar, what’s the difference between post-installed reinforcement when yield is expected vs. when yield is not expected?

Dear customer,

Well this is a good question. PROFIS Rebar special structural wall calculations are based on ACI 318-11 Chapter 21. Reference Section 21.9.2.3(c): “at location where yielding of longitudinal reinforcement is likely to occur as a result of lateral displacements, development lengths of longitudinal reinforcement shall be 1.25 times the values calculated for fy in tension.” This means that when calculating the development length for boundary member reinforcing, the value (l d) calculated per ACI 318-11 Eq. (12-1) must be increased by an over strength factor of 1.25.

PROFIS Rebar refers to boundary member reinforcement in a special structural wall as “reinforcement post-installed bars where yield is expected” and calculates a development length equal to 1.25l d for these bars. PROFIS Rebar refers to non-boundary member reinforcement in a special structural wall as “reinforcement post-installed bars where yield is NOT expected” and calculates a development length equal to l d for these bars. I hope I have answered your question. If there is anything else, please let me know.

Kind Regards
Morgan
