Dear Customer,
thank you for reaching out to us. Post-installing a hook into existing concrete using an adhesive is not possible. PROFIS Rebar calculations are only relevant to calculating straight bar development lengths.
ACI 318 defines a post-installed anchor as an “anchor installed in hardened concrete.” Generally speaking, the post-installed end of reinforcing bar must be straight because only a straight section can be inserted into a drilled hole that is filled with adhesive. However, the end of a post-installed reinforcing bar that will be cast into new concrete can be designed with a hook.
The tension development provisions for special moment frame design require the theoretical length of a hook to first be calculated; however, this value is then used to calculate the required tension development length for a straight bar. Therefore, post-installed reinforcing bars designed for development in a special moment frame is a PROFIS Rebar design option. Please feel free to reach out any time, if you need additional information.
All the best
Jerrod
