Do the HY 200 and HIT-Z rod need hole cleaning?

*Posted on behalf of a Hilti customer

I recently specified HY 200 with the HIT-Z rod for column base plate connections to the footings. The Special Inspector on the project is questioning why no hole cleaning is required and how the anchor can work in a dirty hole. Can you confirm if no hole cleaning is required and how this is possible?

Dear customer,

Thank you for your question. The new Hilti HIT-Z Anchor Rod with its cone-shaped helix works as a torque-controlled bonded anchor. This means that because of their shape, HIT-Z Anchor Rods are not affected by uncleaned, hammer-drilled holes in dry or water saturated concrete in base materials above 41°F (5°C) when used with HIT-HY 200. Please feel free to reach out any time, if you need additional information.

Cheers
Aidan
