Concrete hydration / epoxy compatibility

How soon after pouring std mix 3000 PSI concrete can HIT-RE 500 epoxy anchors be installed? Is install issue limited by hydration (vs strength) of green concrete?

Hello:

Thanks for your post to Ask Hilti. ACI 318-14 Section 17.1.2 and CSA A23.3-14 Section D.1.2 require adhesive anchors to be installed in concrete having a minimum age of 21 days at the time of anchor installation. For adhesive anchors installed in concrete aged less than 21 days, it is recommended that the design engineer evaluate the anchor design based on the concrete strength at the time of installation and use a bond strength value for water saturated concrete.  Site testing is recommended to verify the fastening capacity.

Please note that we have replaced HIT-RE 500 with HIT-RE 100. For your green concrete application you may want to consider HIT-RE 500 V3 which will not require a reduction in bond strength for water saturated concrete. Other advantages of HIT-RE 500 V3 over HIT-RE 100 are: higher load values, multiple hole drilling options, faster cure time, underwater installation and rebar development applications.
