The question is if a galvanized anchor be used outdoors.

Since Hilti does not employ corrosion experts, we typically reference customers to Section 2.3 of the Anchor Fastening Technical Guide for questiosn regarding corrosion (https://submittals.us.hilti.com/PTGVol2/#16/z). In this section there will be suggested corrosion resistance levels based on different applications; however, it will be up to the engineering judgement of the design engineer on the project based on the project parameters.

Hilti should employ a corrosion engineer to spec their products. I find it frustrating that packaging is not clearly labeled for "Interior" and/or "Exterior" use. A wedge anchor is a permanent fixture and needs to be able to stand up to the elements. Hot dipped galvanized or stainless are specified for exterior use. "Mechanical zinc coating" is marketing mumbo jumbo. The packaging on KB1 anchors contains nothing of value to determine if the product is suitable for exterior use. Hilti documents online further contain nothing of value. Hilti stainless anchors cannot be found stocked in any store I can find and I do not want to special order a quantity of 100. If KB1 has a galvanized coating equivalent to hot dip and will survive outdoors in a non-marine environment, please say so. If it is thin electroplated zinc for indoor only, please say so!!!! If the stud is the equivalent of hot dip but the bolts are only zinc electroplate, please say so. The stud has the flat sheen of a hot dip but the bolts and nuts look electroplated. If I knew the stud was exterior grade, I could substitute hot dipped nuts and bolts. I find this to be very poor packaging from a company with a reputation like Hilti for professional grade fixtures.
