Bond strength calculation in Profis

I’m using HY 200 with ACI 318-08 provisions. Why is PROFIS Anchor using ACI 318-11 equations to calculate the bond strength?

Dear Customer,

thank you for your question. Prior to the inclusion of bond strength provisions into ACI 318-11 Appendix D, equations for calculating bond strength were given in the ICC-ES acceptance criteria AC308. These equations were also given in the ICC-ES evaluation service report (ESR) for an adhesive anchor system qualified per AC308, and could be used when designing under the 2009 IBC/ACI 318-08. Since adhesive anchor provisions are now included in the ACI 318 code provisions for anchoring-to-concrete, bond strength equations are no longer included in adhesive anchor ESR’s.

Therefore, ACI 318 bond strength equations are the only equations relevant to adhesive anchor bond strength calculations. Adhesive anchor design under the 2009 IBC/ACI 318-08 must therefore be performed using ACI 318-11 bond strength equations since the ACI 318 bond strength provisions have superseded the AC308 bond strength provisions. Please feel free to reach out any time, if you need additional information.

Kind Regards
