Dear Sir or Madam,
I have 7 5/8" thick partially grouted CMU that is outside. With a shear load of 2,300 lb and a tension load of 800 lb what are my options for anchoring? Please see a list below of reasons I think you cannot use Hilti anchors. Thanks.
Kwik HUS-EZ does not come in hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel.
Kwik Bolt 3 is only for fully grouted CMU.
HIT-HY 70 can only be embedded in masonry thicknesses 13" or greater.
KB-TZ is only for fully grouted CMU.
Sincerely,
Ken Su
Hi Ken:
HIT-HY 70 and HIT-HY 270 (new product that replaces HIT-HY 70) may be used in hollow and grouted CMU walls with 8" nominal thickness. The 13" minimum thickness that you refer to applies to unreinforced masonry applications. Since we do not have test data for partially grouted CMU walls, engineering judgment will be required.

Dear Randy,
Thank you so much for your reply. With only test data KB-TZ, KB-3, HY-270 all for fully grouted CMU how do we apply the edge distance factors for a grouted cell with two ungrouted cells on either side? Would we multiply the published data times the edge distance factor twice? Thanks.
Sincerely,
Ken Su
