According to ACI 318, we have a limitation on embedment depth of chemical anchors (4d to 20d). I just want to know is there any minimum value for embedment depth of mechanical anchors or not?

Roya,

Per ICC-ES AC193, “Acceptance Criteria for Mechanical Anchors in Concrete Elements,” Section 4.1.15 states that post-installed anchors shall be tested at the manufacturer’s desired embedment depth for recognition. In Annex 1 Section 1.4 it states post-installed anchors shall have an effective embedment depth no less than 1.50 inches. There is also a caveat that states that for post-installed anchors qualified for redundant applications, applications where multiple anchors support a linear element that can redistribute the load if an anchor fails, then the effective embedment depth can be reduced to 1.00 inches. For more information, you can reference Section 1.4 of ICC-ES AC193 to review the embedment criteria more in depth.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

Bryan
