Firestopping @ Roof Parapet & Roofing System

Firestopping @ Roof Parapet & Roofing System

I am working on a project that has a 2-hour fire-rated exterior wall that transitions to a non-rated parapet wall. If the 6" metal stud framing is continuous from the exterior rated portion of wall right through the non-rated parapet wall, is Hilti aware of any requirement to provide perimeter fire containment (i.e. firestopping) within the stud cavity layer at the roof deck level or some other variation in order to terminate the fire-rating of the fire-rated portion of exterior wall?

We have been entertaining UL Sysytem No. XHDG.CW-S-1002, however the UL-tested assembly is not exactly like my project's conditions, nor does it specifically acknowledge a roofing system, only "floor assembly". Therefore, we explored the idea of making the parapet 2-hour fire-rated as well, but we were concerned if having a gap between the outermost layer of fire-rated gypsum board at the backside of the parapet and the roof deck closure angle, if somewhere between 1/4" to 1/2", could be simply fire caulked. If the gap needed to be wider than 1/2", I'm curious if we will need a tested-UL system to fill the gap.

For whatever its worth, my project's roofing system is composed of corrugated metal deck with lightweight insulated concrete encapsulating EPS insulation boards (REF: UL P921)

Hello D. Cartwright,

Thank you for the question on perimeter firestopping. You have a very good question and one that is not easily answered via text on this platform. If you would, please email our Edge of Slab firestopping team directly at usfirestopeng@hilti.com with this same question and we will contact you directly on Monday.

Thank you for reaching out!
