The Hilti Anchor Channel Keeps Your Embed Budget "Lite"

The HAC EDGE product line offers superior concrete edge performance in shear compared to other anchor channel systems or anchoring technologies. Additionally, this increased performance costs less when comparing shear capacity vs cost. For example, HAC-50 EDGE can provide up to 5.6 times higher concrete edge performance than HAC-50 at approximately 3½ times the cost! HAC EDGE Lite broadens the Hilti Anchor Channel portfolio for top of slab applications. Moreover, HAC EDGE Lite bridges the large gap between HAC and HAC EDGE by providing a gradual increase in concrete edge breakout capacity in shear at price points lower than HAC EDGE.

HAC EDGE Lite is a similar product to HAC EDGE but HAC EDGE Lite has a smaller EDGE Plate (thinner and smaller edge plate, smaller and shorter rebars). The size of the EDGE Plates is optimized to offer feasible high performing anchor channel solutions for top of slab applications that do not require the superior concrete edge breakout performance offered by HAC EDGE. Figure 2 demonstrates this step change in cost vs concrete edge shear performance between different HAC systems.

HAC EDGE Lite is offered in two different channel profile sizes, HAC-40 EDGE Lite and HAC-50 EDGE Lite, to further optimize project's design.

The design concept of HAC EDGE Lite is the same as the one of HAC EDGE. Figure 4 illustrates a cross-sectional view of HAC-40 EDGE Lite and HAC-50 EDGE Lite.

HAC EDGE Lite PERFORMANCE

The HAC EDGE product line offers superior concrete edge performance without requiring an increased edge distance. Figure 5 provides information about the maximum shear load (due to wind) that can be applied to HAC, HAC EDGE Lite, and HAC EDGE installed in a 4” slab, 4000 psi normal weight concrete and an edge distance of 4” with (2) t-bolts spaced at 6” on center. A constant factored dead load (weight of panel) of 800 lbs is applied to each configuration. All of the design variables stayed the same with the exception of the windload to demonstrate the increase in shear capacities from HAC, to the HAC EDGE Lite, to HAC EDGE.

Note: the potential positive contribution of the EDGE Plate or EDGE Lite Plate to the concrete breakout strength in tension is not considered. The concrete breakout strength in tension is calculated in accordance with ICC ESR-3520 and AC232. The above concrete breakout in tension utilizations for HAC EDGE Lite and HAC EDGE differ from the standard HAC due to the higher prying forces exerted by the higher wind loads.
