HIT-HY 270: ESR-4143 AND ESR 4144 NOW AVAILABLE

The new HIT-HY 270 is the next evolution in masonry adhesive anchoring. HIT-HY 270 provides new technical data and applications, as well as Hilti SafeSet system which eliminates the need for manual hole cleaning when used with a Hilti hollow drill bit and Hilti VC 150 or VC 300 series vacuum. HIT-HY 270 ESR-4143 for solid masonry, hollow masonry, masonry, and ESR 4144 for unreinforced masonry are now available on both Hilti Online and the ICC-ES websites. Click the ESR report name for link to ICC-ES report.

HIT-RE 100, ESR-3829 UPDATED WITH ASTM F1554 RODS AND HOLLOW BITS

Hilti HIT-RE 100, ESR-3829 has been upgraded to include new ASTM F1554 Grade 36, 55, and 105 anchor rods, and the Hilti TE-CD and TE-YD hollow drill bits. The ASTM F1554 anchor rods are currently available through Hilti’s cut-to-length program. Contact Hilti Customer Service for ordering information. With the inclusion of the hollow drill bits, HIT-RE 100 is the newest anchor system to have the Hilti SafeSet system help saving the customers time on installation, creating a reliable fastening, and satisfying the new OSHA dust requirements.

ESR-3574 FOR HIT-HY 100 INCLUDES CRACKED CONCRETE AND SAFESET

The International Code Council Evaluation Services department (ICC-ES) has published a revised ESR-3574 for HIT-HY 100. The 2017 LABC and LARC Supplement and 2017 FBC Supplements are also included.

HIT-HY 100 is now approved for use with the Hilti SafeSet System using the TE-CD and TE-YD Hollow Drill Bit and a Hilti Vacuum. Additionally, the report now includes the design provisions for cracked concrete for threaded rod and rebar for HIT-HY 100. The report also includes revisions to Tables 2 and 6 of ESR-3574 which includes the ASTM F1554 threaded rods for Gr. 36, Gr. 55, and Gr. 105 and the ASTM F593. Cold Worked Stainless Steel and ASTM A193 Gr 8(M) Class 1 Stainless steel threaded rods. Additionally, footnote 1 in the Bond Strength tables was revised to provide an equation to increase the bond strength for f’c>2500 psi. The bond strength may now be increased by (f’c/2500) 10% when f’c>2500 psi.

IAPMO UES ER-547 for Hilti HIT-HY 100 CMU

Hilti has obtained an IAPMO UES evaluation report, ER 547, for Hilti HIT-HY 100 in CMU per Acceptance Criteria for Adhesive Anchors in Masonry Elements, AC58. As this is the first evaluation report for Hilti with IAPMO UES, the following information may answer some initial questions you may have regarding this new report. Please feel free to contact our Engineering Technical Services department for more information or any questions.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Where can I find IAPMO UES reports online?
A: At http://www.iapmoes.org/EvaluationReports/default.aspx. You can enter a company or product name in the search parameters to find all the current IAPMO UES report. ER-547 is also available at www.hilti.com (US) or www.hilti.ca (Canada).

Q: Is an IAPMO UES report equivalent to an ICC-ES report?
A: In general, yes. Both ICC-ES and IAPMO UES use the same published Acceptance Criteria to evaluate the data. For HIT-HY 100 in CMU, the evaluation is done based on ICC-ES AC58 for post-installed adhesive anchors in masonry. Both agencies use the appropriate test standards and factors of safety from AC58 for producing the final report.

The process to obtain either an IAPMO UES report or ICC-ES report for post-installed adhesive anchors in grout-filled CMU is very similar:

  • Since the application and product are not specifically covered by the IBC, an Acceptance Criteria (AC58) was developed.
  • Acceptance Criteria are developed as a substitute for having to perform an “engineering judgement” on a project-by-project basis. This has been generally accepted by design engineers and building officials for many years.
  • IAPMO UES, like ICC-ES, is an ANSI Accredited Certification Body, and therefore accredited to evaluate products for conformance to the Acceptance Criteria.
  • In summary, a report from either IAPMO UES and ICC-ES evaluated per the same Acceptance Criteria can be considered equivalent.

Q: Will an IAPMO UES report be accepted by the building officials in our jurisdictions?
A: It is our understanding that most building officials that accept ICC-ES reports will accept an IAPMO UES report. Hilti is not the first company to have an IAPMO UES evaluation report per AC58, and our information is that these other reports are readily accepted by building officials, including OSHPD, the City of LA, and DSA. If this report is not accepted by a building official for your project, feel free to contact Hilti.

Q: Is the format of the report similar to an ICC-ES evaluation report for grout-filled CMU?
A: The data table content, with allowable loads and a factor of safety of 5:1 for grout-filled CMU per AC58, is the same for all products in grout-filled CMU for both ICC-ES and IAPMO UES. If you have specific questions on the report please contact Hilti. If you have additional questions or need any assistance, please contact Hilti.
